An estranged biracial couple must confront their feelings about race and bias after their son is detained by the local police following a traffic stop incident. Their disparate histories and backgrounds inform their assumptions as they try to find out what happened to their son.

Auditions

Monday, April 19 @ 2:00pm

Auditions are held at Theatre Suburbia (5201 Mitchelldale St, Suite A3) on Sunday afternoon and Monday evening following the opening of the prior show. Sign in starts one hour prior to start.

Auditions are open to the public and consist of cold readings from the script. Please bring your resume and headshot if you have them. If not, we have audition forms and a camera. Those cast are required to become a member of the theatre.

Everyone who auditions will receive a complimentary ticket for two to the current production. Additionally, those cast will receive a complimentary ticket for two to their show.

Read through generally occurs the Tuesday or Wednesday following auditions. Full rehearsals normally start the following Monday and run through the opening of the show.

Rehearsals are usually Monday through Thursday evenings, as well as on Fridays once the previous show closes. Additionally, there may be pick up rehearsals on the two Thursdays following opening.

Character Breakdown

Director Suzanne King is seeking cast members to fill 4 roles.

Kendra Ellis-Connor ( F | 40s - early 50s )

African-American. A professor of psychology and the mother of a teenage son. Recently separated from her white husband. Emotionally raw but trying to keep it together behind a professional façade. Exceptionally intelligent and self-possessed.

Scott Connor ( M | late 40s - 50s )

White. Kendra’s estranged husband. An FBI agent of predominantly Irish ancestry. Takes pride in his family’s long tradition of military service. Though rigid in his views, he has a warm, sensitive side and is a deeply loving and devoted father.

Officer Paul Larkin ( M | mid 20s - 30 )

White. An intelligent, congenial young police officer with bold career ambitions who lacks actual life experience.

Lieutenant John Stokes ( M | 50 - mid 60s )

African-American. A tough, no-nonsense career police officer who is used to having people listen when he talks. He has paid his dues. He knows the rules and has no hesitation enforcing them.

Stick around after the Sunday audition. Theatre Suburbia directors will conduct a short workshop to help you improve your auditioning skills.
